Overview

Royal Giant is a 6-elixir common with 5-tile range and a hit speed of 1.7s, locked onto buildings only. He is unique: the only ranged building-targeter in the game, which means the Princess Tower never pulls him away from your opponent's defense. You put him down, he shoots. The whole deck is built around protecting that 1.7s hit speed with cycle, chip, and a wall of counter-pushes.

Current overall ladder usage sits around 1% per public ladder data, but at Path of Legends top ranks RG is overrepresented — it occupies more than a dozen slots in the current top-20 trail. The playbook has not changed in 2026: pressure one side, chip with Fireball on grouped troops, and win the 1-cycle game.

Top 3 Archetypes (Oct 2026)

1. RG FishBoy Hunter 3.1 Cycle

Royal Giant · Hunter · Fisherman · Fireball · Skeleton Dragons · Skeletons · The Log · Heal Spirit — Avg Elixir 3.1

The flagship list. Fisherman yanks tanks and Mini Pekka off your RG so he can land one more shot. Hunter deletes air and swarms up close, Skeleton Dragons give you a splash + air backup that Fireball/Log can't fully clear, Heal Spirit keeps Hunter alive for a second volley. It is the single most-played RG shell in the current top trail — in our sample it accounts for more than 10% of all RG matches. If you want to climb with RG and don't know where to start, this is the deck.

2. RG EvoLJ Phoenix

Royal Giant · Lumberjack Evo · Phoenix · Hero Barb Barrel · Goblin Cage Evo · Fireball · Electro Spirit · Skeletons — Avg Elixir 3.3

A heavier, more aggressive variant that trades Hunter for Phoenix as the air answer and Lumberjack Evo as a rage dropper behind RG. Hero Barb Barrel is the key piece — it clears Skarmy, Goblins, and Princess in one swing, so RG keeps shooting. Goblin Cage Evo gives you a hard pull for Mini Pekka and Pekka pushes. Slower cycle than FishBoy, but much better at punishing opponents who overcommit.

3. RG Bomber Rocket Cycle

Royal Giant · Bomber Evo · Cannon · Earthquake · Hero Ice Golem · Rocket · Zap Evo · Skeletons — Avg Elixir 3.1

The pure chip variant seen at the very top of the Path of Legends trail. No big splash troops — the whole deck is Rocket + Earthquake tower damage plus RG chip. Bomber Evo covers all ground swarms, Cannon pulls, Hero Ice Golem is the mini-tank in front of RG. You lose on big beatdown matchups but it is extremely consistent against mirror RG, Hog, and X-Bow. Hard to pilot — the Rocket decisions make or break the match.

How to Pilot Royal Giant

  • Place at bridge, not at the back. RG's 5-tile range means a bridge placement starts hitting the tower immediately. Back placements give the opponent 20+ seconds to set up a kill combo.
  • Pre-Fireball groups, not single units. Fireball on three Musketeers or Witch + Minions pays for itself. Don't fireball a lone Mini Pekka.
  • Fisherman pulls win games. Mini Pekka, Pekka, Mega Knight, even a Hog Rider on the opposite lane — pull it under your Princess Tower, let the tower kill it, and RG lives.
  • Count the enemy's air answer. If they used Fireball on your Hunter and spells cycle isn't close, Skeleton Dragons become the win condition behind a second RG.
  • Double elixir is where RG wins. Save tower damage for the 2x phase. One extra RG cycle in double is often 300-400 damage.

Hard Counters to Royal Giant

  • Mini P.E.K.K.A — kills RG in 3 hits for 4 elixir. If they don't have Fisherman, you are winning the trade.
  • Inferno Dragon / Inferno Tower — melts RG before 2 shots land. Lightning or Fireball cycle is mandatory for RG to beat this.
  • Pekka — tanks RG shots forever and marches straight back. RG has no answer without Fisherman + spell cycle.
  • Hunter close-up — if the Hunter touches RG, it is 400+ damage per volley. Keep Hunter out of 2-tile range.
  • Opponent's own RG — the mirror is won by whoever can Fisherman/pull better and lands the cleaner Fireball value.

FAQ

Is Royal Giant F2P-friendly?

Yes. He is Common rarity, max level reaches early, and the FishBoy 3.1 shell runs on cards most accounts have — Hunter, Fireball, Skeletons, Log, Heal Spirit are all standard. The Evolution slot on Barb Barrel or Lumberjack is the only grind.

RG or Hog Rider for climbing?

Different styles. Hog is 4 elixir and faster, better for 3.0 cycle. RG is 6 elixir but keeps shooting from range — much better in Double Elixir and against defensive setups with Tornado + Pekka. Both are top-trail viable in Oct 2026.

Why is RG at ~1% ladder usage but top-20 everywhere?

Ladder trophy pushers often chase shinier win conditions. The top Path of Legends players stick with RG because its 1.7s building-targeter hit is the most consistent chip in the game. Low usage, high ceiling.

Does Evolved Royal Giant change the deck?

RG Evolution exists but is rarely slotted — most top lists prefer Evo on Lumberjack, Goblin Cage, Barb Barrel Hero, or Bomber because those give more defensive value per cycle.
