Hero Ice Wizard: the Freeze Ends When the Snowman Dies
The ability is not a Freeze spell you drop on a tile. It needs a slowed troop, and the lock ends when the snowman dies.
What Supercell Wrote
Hero Ice Wizard came with Minion Academy on 7 September 2026. Supercell's season notes name the ability Frosty Fella: he still slows troops, and activating the ability spawns a snowman behind the nearest slowed troop. Troops in that area stay frozen until the snowman is defeated. Unlock is the upgraded Pass Royale track, or 200 Hero Coins.
The deploy cost is the Ice Wizard's, 3 elixir. CrownStats lists the ability at 2 elixir in its October 2026 balance note, and the player in the video below calls the press 2 elixir. If the button in your game shows another number, use the button. Published pages also disagree on snowman hit points and how many seconds the freeze can last, so those figures are not in this guide.
Press It / Do Not Press It
The official line needs a slowed troop. The snowman spawns behind that troop, not on an empty tile you chose. Pressing with nothing slowed does not match the ability as written. Pressing when they can hit the snowman immediately spends 2 elixir on a lock they are about to cancel.
Count the deploy and the press as two payments. A 3-elixir Ice Wizard plus a 2-elixir ability is 5 if you press in the same beat. That is the same problem as any other spell you fire while their tank is still walking: the spell can be correct and still leave you unable to defend. The method is in how to count elixir.

What the Video Does Not Give You
In this stream the player says 30 of the top 200 decks that have a hero slot were on Hero Ice Wizard. That is his count from that session. This page did not recount the leaderboard.
He points at Graveyard and Royal Hogs as the shells he would play. He never reads out an 8-card list. Do not fill the other cards in from an older deck you remember. Watch the matches if you want his placements. The rule above does not require the video.
Questions
Is this the same as the Freeze spell?
No. Freeze is a tile you choose. Frosty Fella follows a troop he has slowed, and it ends early if the snowman dies. If they leave the snowman up, I play around about five seconds. That is how long the lock lasts in my games, not a second rule. The ranking is in how I rank the Heroes.
Can I run him and the normal Ice Wizard together?
He is the Hero form of Ice Wizard and takes the Hero slot. The beginner guide covers how Heroes fit a deck. This page does not have a separate test of pairing both forms.
Should a new account buy him first?
The season notes do not say he is the first Hero to unlock. Hero Knight is still the forgiving first pick on the beginner page, because Taunt does not ask you to time a second button on a slowed target.
