How Emotes Became BM
This will not change your next game. It is the dated path from four King faces to a mute button that still does not stop the joke.
Four Faces, Then a Mute Button
Clash Royale launched on 4 January 2016 with four King emotes: thumbs up, angry, crying, and the laugh. Six text taunts shipped with them. The laugh was already being used as a taunt by September 2016. A write-up from that month describes a player disconnecting and coming back to a tower loss and a laugh spam.
Supercell added a mute button on 19 September 2016. It did not fully work. Until the 1 November 2016 update, a muted emote still showed a bubble with "...". After that update, mute hid them. The button is still the actual answer. The history after this is about people who leave it off.
The Cap Went to 100
On 3 April 2017 a maintenance break raised the per-battle emote cap to 100. The wiki history says the old cap was 14. A GameFAQs patch list for the same day says it was 15. Players testing that afternoon reported they could pass the old stop and then hit a new one at 100. The direction is not in dispute. The old number is.
That is the patch that made King-laugh spam a whole game instead of a short burst. The laugh is still the one players mean when they say the original toxic emote. It does not say a word. It only lands after you have already lost the exchange.
Character Faces, Then the Pass
On 20 June 2018 the shop started selling emotes that were not the King's face. Goblin, Princess, and the rest of the card cast became something you could buy. The four launch King emotes stayed. A later King emote was still a Top 100 Global Tournament reward from 20 January 2020, so 2018 did not end King emotes.
The names players still argue about from that shop era are the goblin with his tongue out, the goblin kiss, and the goblin giggle. That is a memory of which three got repeated, not a counted ranking.
On 1 September 2019 the update put emotes on Pass Royale. Before that, a new face was a shop deal, a challenge, or a trophy-road reward. After it, a season pass was a steady supply. Tournament emotes and the daily shop deals were already there. BM stopped being a rare cosmetic and became something most active accounts owned.
Princess Yawn is the quiet one in that argument. The laugh tells you that you are being laughed at. The yawn is played as "this game is not worth my attention." I am not going to pretend a poll settled which one is worse. Comment sections have split on those two, plus the goblin kiss, for years. The split is the history.
The Chicken and the Crying Goblin
On 30 September 2019 an exclusive Hay Day chicken emote was added for linking a Supercell ID. Players turned it into a coward call: rocket cycle, a bridge Mega Knight, or someone already BMing. Supercell did not write that meaning. The emote is a chicken. The insult is the context.
The crying goblin, which players call Mimimi after the sound, is the one this video calls the only emote removed for being too toxic and then brought back. I cannot find a Supercell post that says that. What players reported in July and August 2025 is narrower: it had been gone, then it was in the shop again for about $5, and some accounts only saw it after personalized offers were turned on. A reply on the same threads says it had always been a real-money emote, not a gem one. Until there is a patch note, "removed for toxicity" stays the video's claim, not a fact on this page.
The same video starts an emote-combo section and the subtitles break before any combo is named. This page does not invent the missing sequence.
