Overview

Miner is a 3-elixir legendary troop with a unique ability: it burrows underground and can be deployed anywhere in the Arena, including directly on the opponent's tower. It deals reduced Crown Tower damage but serves as a cheap tank for fragile troops like Bats, Skeletons, Wall Breakers, and Lava Pups. Miner is the backbone of chip-cycle decks — constant 3-elixir pressure that forces the opponent to react every single time.

Current ladder usage sits at ~5%. At the top of Path of Legends, Miner specialists dominate the leaderboard — CHI Pompeyo4 holds #1 at 3691 trophies. The Oct 2026 meta features Miner in two distinct shells: the Rune Giant + Little Prince 2.8 cycle deck (by far the most popular), and the Miner Balloon control family. Across ~8.97M battles, Miner appeared in 31,334 deck matchups with 20+ distinct archetypes.

Top 3 Archetypes (Oct 2026)

1. Rune Giant Miner 2.8 Cycle

Cannon Evo · Little Prince · Bats Evo · Rune Giant · Miner · Poison · Skeletons · Barbarian Barrel — Avg 2.8

The undisputed king of Miner decks in Oct 2026, used by 10 of the top 20 Miner players on Path of Legends. At 2.8 average elixir it cycles incredibly fast — Miner + Poison at the tower, then cycle back to Miner before the opponent can build a push. Little Prince provides dual-lane pressure and ranged DPS. Rune Giant is the ground tank that forces the opponent to commit, while Cannon Evo handles building-targeting threats. Bats Evo deliver air DPS on defense and chip on offense. Players like Rin✨安之 (#3 at 3613), Light Work (#6 at 3562), Mohamed Light (#19 at 3414), and 8 others in the top 20 all run this exact list.

2. Miner Balloon (EvoMusk 2.9 Cycle)

Musketeer Evo · Hero Balloon · Skeletons Evo · Miner · Ice Golem · Barbarian Barrel · Giant Snowball · Bomb Tower — Avg 2.9

The classic Miner + Balloon shell, refreshed with Musketeer Evo and Hero Balloon for Oct 2026. Miner tanks the tower for the Balloon connection — drop Miner on the tower, then Hero Balloon behind it so the tower locks onto Miner first. Musketeer Evo provides consistent ranged DPS on defense and survives Fireball. Bomb Tower handles ground pushes and splash swarms. Ice Golem is the 2-elixir kite piece that pulls Pekka, Mini Pekka, and Prince into the center. Fan (#10 at 3516) runs a variation with Giant Snowball Evo. This archetype accounts for ~3.6% of all Miner games (1,126 battles).

3. Golem SK Miner

Skeleton Army Evo · Skeleton King · Inferno Dragon Evo · Golem · Miner · Night Witch · Goblin Curse · Zap — Avg 3.8

The heaviest Miner archetype — Golem is the 8-elixir push and Miner is the chip piece that keeps pressure in the opposite lane or tanks for Lava Pups-like swarm units. Skeleton King accumulates souls from Night Witch Bats and Skeleton Army deaths, then activates for a massive skeleton swarm. Inferno Dragon Evo melts tanks on defense. Goblin Curse disrupts ground pushes. This deck topped all Miner archetypes in raw usage at 4.83% (1,513 battles), showing that even in beatdown decks, Miner's 3-elixir versatility earns a slot.

How to Pilot Miner

  • Vary your Miner placement. Don't always send Miner to the same tower tile. Alternate between the front-left, front-right, back-left, and back-right of the tower. Predictable placement lets the opponent pre-place a counter (Skeletons, Knight) for a zero-damage trade.
  • Miner + Poison is the core combo. Drop Miner on the tower, then Poison the same area. Poison kills the small troops they place to counter Miner (Skeletons, Bats, Goblin Gang) while Miner chips the tower. This 7-elixir combo is the primary damage source.
  • Use Miner to tank for fragile troops. Wall Breakers, Bats, Lava Pups, Skeleton Barrel — any low-HP swarm benefits hugely from Miner tanking the tower. Time the Miner to land right as your swarm crosses the bridge.
  • Miner on defense. Miner can be placed on top of enemy support troops (Wizard, Musketeer, Princess) to distract them. 3 elixir to pull the Musketeer's targeting away from your tower for 5 seconds is an excellent trade.
  • Don't over-commit. Miner decks win by small advantages over many cycles, not one giant push. If you're up 500 HP on their tower, just defend and send solo Miners. Don't force Poison if it means losing a tower to a counter-push.

Hard Counters to Miner

  • Knight / Valkyrie — tanky ground troops placed on top of Miner trade efficiently. Knight (3 elixir) fully counters Miner for an even trade and walks to the bridge for a counter-push.
  • Skeletons / Guards — surrounding Miner with Skeletons for 1 elixir limits him to 1–2 tower hits. Guards are even better as they survive Zap/Log with shields.
  • Goblin Cage — the Brawler pops out and handles Miner while you gain a defensive building. 23.41% of Miner-related battles feature opponents using The Log, suggesting Miner bait/chip is a constant battle of small trades.
  • Poison prediction — if you suspect Miner + Poison, place your counter outside the Poison radius. Spread your defense so Poison can't hit both your counter troop and the tower.
  • Opposite-lane pressure — Miner decks are cycle decks with minimal heavy defense. A Golem, Lava Hound, or Giant push forces them to spend elixir defending instead of chipping.

FAQ

Is Miner still viable in Oct 2026?

Absolutely. 5% usage with #1 global at 3691 trophies. The Rune Giant 2.8 cycle variant dominates the top 20 of Path of Legends, and Miner Balloon remains a consistent archetype. Miner's versatility as a 3-elixir deployable-anywhere tank makes it timeless.

Miner Poison or Miner Wall Breakers?

Miner Poison (the 2.8 Rune Giant cycle) is the stronger meta pick in Oct 2026 — 10 of the top 20 Miner players use it. Miner Wall Breakers (WB Miner Poison Bats Bait, 2.04% usage) is more niche but punishes opponents who can't handle split-lane pressure. Choose Poison for consistency, WB for aggression.

Why is Little Prince so popular in Miner decks?

Little Prince provides ranged DPS, spawns a Guardian when damaged, and at 3 elixir fits perfectly into the fast cycle. He defends air and ground, then walks to the bridge for chip. He appears in the vast majority of top-20 Miner decks this season.
